How you can become a supportive employer

When seeking support from employers, Chairman NELC asks them to:

  • Allow flexibility in the timing of annual leave so that Volunteers can fulfil their annual training commitment. Employers are asked to consider giving extra time off but, of course, this is not always possible.

  • Make it known throughout their organisations that they support the Volunteer Reserve Forces. This declaration of support should be publicised to each subsidiary and down to the shop floor level; where possible this should be included in personnel policies.

  • Nominate a company contact.

  • Send a brief letter outlining their support and allow NELC to include them on the list of quoted supporters. This, of course, is not essential and although most employers do give their unqualified support and are happy to be listed, a few do not want their support publicised.
