Red Arrows get green light for display season

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team has been given a green light to make its new 2001 display public at scores of shows across the UK and abroad. The Red Arrows’ Commander-in-Chief Air Marshal Sir Christopher Coville gave the 2001 display the thumbs up in Cyprus yesterday afternoon.

Approval means the Red Arrows’ pilots can don their famous red suits for the first time this year. The blues – the technicians who maintain the Hawk aircraft – are also now permitted to wear their smart blue overalls. The RAFAT has been in Oman and Cyprus for five weeks for an intense training session. The team members will fly home to RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire on Monday, 14 May at 1400hrs to be greeted by their families.

After the sortie debrief has finished the CinC, Air Marshal Sir Christopher Coville, gave a speech to say how much he had enjoyed his time with the team and awards them their authority to do public displays.

…and catching brilliant reflections in the Cyprus sun.

Red Arrows return to UK

The Red Arrows landed back in the UK again today wearing their red suits and having been given the all clear for the 2001 air displays. The pilots were given a warm welcome by their families at their home base – RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire – after a six-week detachment in the Middle East.

The Royal Air Force’s Aerobatic Team normally just trains in Cyprus in advance of the summer season, however, this year the pilots also trained in Oman. After landing at RAF Scampton the Leader of the Red Arrows Squadron Leader Andy Offer said; "We are absolutely delighted to be back. We have trained very hard and the display has come together brilliantly". The first display of the season will be in Toulouse this weekend (19th May).
