Flypast Requests – A Guide

Thank you for your interest in whether it would be possible for The Red Arrows to perform a flypast over your event. All flypasts by Royal Air Force aircraft, including those carried out by The Red Arrows, are coordinated by an organisation called the Royal Air Force Events Team.

The Royal Air Force Events Team will need certain information concerning your event in order to consider whether a flypast by The Red Arrows will be possible. Click on the link at the bottom of this page for an application form, which should be sent to;

RAF Events Team,
Adastral Hall,
PO Box 1000,
RAF College Cranwell,
Sleaford,
Lincs,
NG34 9GZ.

All sections of the form must be completed, and the form should be returned to the Royal Air Force Events Team, not The Red Arrows. Flypast requests must be received by the Royal Air Force Events Team no later than 6 weeks before the proposed event.

There are two categories of flypast which the Team can perform. The most obvious difference between them is that one is free of charge, and the other is not! To assist you in deciding which type of flypast to request, a description of both is outlined below.

En-route Flypasts:
When the Team fly between summer displays, they always fly in formation, typically at a height of about 1,000 feet above the ground (weather and air traffic control restrictions permitting). During these transit flights, the Team can be programmed to make a straight flypast at events close to the planned route. We cannot do any flypast that involves a considerable deviation from the planned route because that would incur significant extra aircraft operating costs. En-route flypasts are always subject to cancellation at short notice for operational reasons such as weather conditions and Air Traffic Control restrictions.

Dedicated Flypasts:
The other type of flypast which the Team are occasionally able to carry out are those which are not linked to an existing transit flight, and therefore require a dedicated tasking. This type of flypast will incur costs to the event organiser.

I hope that the information outlined above will assist you in your application. On behalf of The Red Arrows, I wish you the best of luck for your event.

Yours sincerely,

Rachel Huxford
