Blue Eagles Team Displays – Jersey – The Battle of Flowers – 5th August 2001

On 5th August the team were to be found in beautiful Jersey. Operating from the Jersey Aeroclub at the airport the team flew the short transit to the bay at St Helier(the island’s capital), to perform their display as the opening event to the Island’s historic Battle of Flowers celebrations. This event is in its 99th year and is an annual major tourism event.

The day dawned overcast and windy, the Manager pre-positioned a Gazelle at the newly built Marina to act as focus for the team who were due to perform at 1215 later that day.

Having set up the exhibition vehicle beside the Gazelle a lot of public interest began to be generated. From a crowd of about 50 at 0800 the crowd swelled to several thousand by midday. A lot of the attendees were there by virtue of ‘word of mouth’ publicity, or should that be ‘word of mobile’.

At approximately 1200 the clouds started to break and the wind eased, so that by the time that the team arrived in ‘Vic’ formation to take up their start positions, the sky was a glorious blue and the temperature had soared to about 25 degrees.

Following an exemplary display the team were transported from the airport to the marina to meet the public and sign autographs for those present.

This proved to be a really enjoyable weekend for the team and we have already secured an invite for both the 100th celebrations of the Battle of Flowers and also the Battle of Britain Airshow.
