Blue Eagles Team News for 2005

30 July at Music in the Air.

Saturday 30th July saw the team return to Middle Wallop from Sandown for one night to participate in the annual "Music in the Air" airshow. The main memory of this year’s show will be the continuous rain and very low cloud. In what turned out to be the worst weather of the evening The Blues took to the air to a huge cheer from the audience. Alas after one orbit of the field it was deemed that the weather was just too bad for a full display and the team had to make do with a single flypast. On landing all of the team were obviously extremely disapointed not to be able display in front of their home crowd. Unfortunatley, this was to be the pattern for most of the evening. However, the massed approach by nearly thirty Army Air Corps helicopters was, for many, the highlight of the day. The following morning the team returned to Sandown on the Isle of Wight to participate in the second day of the End of the War airshow.

Saturday 16 July

Grant and Jim go "feet wet" for the short crossing of the Solent.

Jim passes the Needles to the western end of the Isle of Wight.

With the strong wind streaking across the Solent, Neil and Dave cross the south coast.

The Queen Elizabeth II could be seen preparing to leave Southampton Docks.

The Team flew over the Music in the Air stage on arrival back at Middle Wallop.

As Al shuts down, Grant hover-taxies past to his alloted parking space.

Due to the terrible weather and low cloud the team were able to carry out just one flypast.

The Catalina Flying boat carried out one of just four full displays of the night.

The Army Historic Flight were luckier with the weather and were able to carry out their full display.

The massed approach, though carried out in torrential rain was the highlight of the evening for many in the audience.
