Blue Eagles Team News – RIAT Press Day – 06th June and Thruxton SAAB Track Event 09 June 2006

or, the Long Weekend, Part One!

The Royal international Air Tattoo is an event so large it now has its own Press Day a month ahead of the actual event. As one of the Teams participating in this years show, the Blue Eagles were invited to attend, and had the pleasure of meeting a great many famous names from the world of sport and entertainment. On Friday 09 June, the Team were then invited to Thruxton by one of their sponsors this year, SAAB, to take part in a track day at the famous racing circuit. This was to be the start of an exciting weekend, as from Thruxton the Team flew to RAF Cosford in Shropshire. The Cosford Air Show was on the Sunday, but on the Saturday, the Team were to fly their first public display of 2006 at Silverstone on the Qualifying Day for the British Grand Prix. The site will feature all the action from these displays, so stay tuned!

On the way to RAF Fairford, a fish eye lens view of the Lynx cockpit.	One of the sporting legends at the RIAT Press Day was Les Ferdinand….

….who got briefed on the Gazelle and its equiment by Colin….	….before taking a flight with the Team!

Les obviously enjoyed his trip, showing support for the Blue Eagles….	….which was quite properly returned by the Team!

Meanwhile, saxophonist Peter Long and Radio 2s Claire Teal were using the Lynx as an impromtu concert venue….	….while speed demon Mark was getting his hands on Colin Fallows’ jet and rocket powered world speed record car.

And so to Thruxton to the SAAB Track event.	The Lynx this year displaying the Team badge on the nose.

Colin took the dynamics lesson round the cones in his stride….	….whereas Glen found it a little more exciting!

Team Leader BJ on the track’s racing line….	….followed by Graham who could really shift a car round the Thruxton circuit!

SAAB Operations Manager, Andy Dunston, hands the keys of the Team’s new cars to Major George Bacon, SO2 Army Air Corps Displays this year.	The whole Team are delighted with their specially marked new SAABs.

Off to Cosford! The Lynx lifts off from Thruxton.	Looking across the formation at Stuart’s Eagle 4 in perfect flying weather.
