RAF
Waddington Air Display, Lincolnshire – Saturday 24 June
Having settled in to
the new season, new Team and new display, the first day of RAF Waddington
was a triumph for the Blue Eagles, presenting one of the most exciting
and perfect displays the Team has ever flown. The weather was less than
perfect, and we will be bringing you a pilot’s eye view of the full display
on Sunday, when the weather is expected to improve. The crowd were agog
at the flying display, and the ground Team did roaring trade in support
as a result. Here is a ground crew’s eye view of the work required at
such a prestigious event:

The
ground Team are on site early setting up the display. The caravan
includes videos and memorabilia of the Team in action. |

At
any display, the air and ground crews work together to man the stand,
enabling the public to have such items as their posters signed by
the whole Team. This makes for a long day for everybody! |

To
give you an idea of the size of the RAF Waddington show, this is
the view of the Blue Eagles display finale from the caravan! The
flight line is a good half mile from the site! |

The
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Lancaster was the only aircraft
who’s majestic presence suited the dark and gloomy weather of the
Saturday. |

The
professional Waddington commentary Team, here with Angie, Mike and
and guest Russ, thoroughly enjoyed the Blue Eagles display. |

The
Waddington static park included some rare and exotic types, including
this two-seat Italian Air Force F-104 Starfighter. |

Peter
Jackson, the Jeweller, and one of the sponsors of the Team, brought
his crew to the show. Here Team lead, "Cuz" Curry and
he discuss the new Blue Eagles 2000 Breitling watch, an Emergency
model with a built in radio beacon. |

Challenges
are often issued by other teams, and here Sharon and Chris of the
Blue Eagles ground crew respond to one by volunteering to ride a
bungee powered ejection seat, catapulting them 100 feet in the air! |
