Middle Wallop Officer’s Mess Summer Ball – Saturday 15 June

It was the Team’s chance to display in front of the most critical of audiences, that made up of members of the Army Air Corps itself. In response to this challenge, they did what has to be the best display any of us have ever seen. Here are the highlights of the show.

Ready to begin the show walkthrough, the team take time out to admire Jim’s bow tie!

Each display is walked through first

Every display is walked through in the "dirt dive" to fixed the positions and routine in everyone’s mind.

The Team Manager cuts a dashing figure!

The Team manager, Rupert Lyon, cuts a dashing figure at the Ball!

The Silver Eagles dropped in to open the show

The Silver Eagles dropped in to open the show, four parachutists jumping from a Scout heliopter.

The lead parachutist carried the Army Air Corps flag

Cuz leads the Team in, backwards....

Cuz then led the Team in for their display, flying backwards ahead of the Gazelles….

....then breaks up and over the Gazelles.

….before breaking up and over the Gazelles, an amazing beginning to the display.

The four Gazelle cross was spot on!

The four Gazelles crossed over right on the centreline in the gathering dusk.

The Gazelles then break to depth

The Gazelles then break to depth, the second pair running striaght out, the lead pair perfoeming simultaneous 270 degree turns on either side of the incoming Lynx.

A perfect diamond

The Gazelles then reform and flypast in diamond formation.

Cuz runs in for his last pass, nose 90 degrees down, with the sun almost gone.

The other dashing figure from the Team

Sharon looked stunning at the Ball! Wot, no blue flying suit?

Jim landed the Gazelle at the Ball

Jim landed his Gazelle at the Ball to give the crowd a closer look.

Apache!

Deep in the woods, something stirred…..

The Apache finished the display

….as the Apache came in to end the display. The Army Air Corps latest aircraft gives battlefield air power an entirely new edge.
