2007 Stories
Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival – 26th & 27th July
Despite the bad weather preventing the Team from displaying on Thursday, the Friday show was a corker, earning the Team a huge cheer and round of applause from the enormous crowd on Friday.
Sanicole – Belgium – 22nd July
This is a small but always surprising airshow, held on the club airfield at Sanicole near Hasselt in Belgium, and run by Gilbert and Geoffrey Buekenberghs. The former is also the chairman of the European Airshow Council, and together he and his son put on a teriffic combination of participants in their annual show.
Fairford – The Royal International Air Tattoo – 14th & 15th July
The largest military airshow in Britain draws an equally large crowd, not least because several charities benefit from the proceeds of this prestige event. The Blue Eagles display stand and Team were busy all weekend answering questions from the public impressed by their unique display.
Silverstone – British Formula 1 Grand Prix Qualifying Day – 07th July
The highlight of the British motorsport calendar is the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone, and it is a real priviledge for the Team to be invited to display for another year at this great event.
RAF Waddington International Air Show – 30th June and 01st July
The team performed Solo displays at Waddington on a wet and windy morning. There was a huge crowd and they soon descended onto the trailer to meet the pilots and collect their posters! The full story and pictures can be seen by clicking on the link above.
Le Luc Air Show – 23rd and 24th June
The Team travelled over to the south of France for the Annual French Army Aviation air day at Le Luc airbase. The show featured aircraft and teams from all over Europe. The full story and pictures can be seen by clicking on the link above.
The Kemble Air Show – 17 June 2007
The Kemble Air Show included what the Team Manager, Captain Laura Jones, described as the best Team display so far this year! The full story and pictures can be seen by clicking on the link above.
The Cosford Air Show- 10 June 2007
The Cosford Air Show began this year under a dark and gloomy sky, leading to many supposing that it would be cancelled! However, the sky cleared steadily so by the time the Team came to display, conditions were, while not ideal, perfectly flyable for the now seasoned 2007 Blue Eagles. The display was a show stopper, as can be seen in the pictures and story here.
The Duxford Spring Air Show- 20 May 2007
The first full airshow display of the 2007 display season was seen by a capacity crowd at the Duxford Spring Air Show. This was extremely well received as the new display is very powerful and dynamic. It was also very appropriate that the Team were there, as it was the Falklands commemorative air show, the Gazelle of course was deployed to the Falklands with the Army Air Corps.
The Abingdon Air Show – 06 May 2007
The Abingdon Air Show is a little jewel of an airshow, always attracting a wide variety of aircraft, vintage and modern. This year was no exception, and the Blue Eagles had been invited to perform a full display as the big closing act of the show. Sadly, due to illness, only a solo Gazelle was able to fly, but what a display Mal Malcolm put on! Click on the title for the full story and pictures.

The Lydd Airshow – 09 to 10 September 2006
The London Ashford Airport
at Lydd in Kent was host to Britain’s latest addition to the air
display season, the Lydd Airshow. The Team flew a brilliant display at this new venue,thoroughly enjoying themselves in the local area!
Mid season retrospective – 30 July to 17 August 2006
During the mid-season break,
the Team put together a retrospective look at some of their favorite
moments so far in the 2006 season. Culdrose, Fairford and Farnborough
displays are featured in this photo report of behind the scenes moments.
The Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival and Weston Super Helidays – amongst
others – 26 to 29 July 2006
The Team were so busy for
the five days at the end of the last week in July! They had had
only a two day break after Farnborough on Saturday and Sunday,
before they flew to Weston for their annual Air Display on the
Wednesday. From there, they flew to RAF Marham in Norfolk to take
part in their families day, which was also to mark the retirement
of the Canberra from RAF service this year. While based at Marham,
the Team also flew displays on the Thursday and Friday at the Lowestoft
Seafront Air Festival, before leaving on the Friday to display
again at the Weston Super Helidays. The pictures tell the story….
The
Farnborough International Air Display – 22 and 23 July 2006
The Farnborough International
Air Show is a trade display held over an entire week. During the week,
manufacturers have the opportunity to display their latest aircraft,
but at the weekend, the flying display is expanded to include display
teams and other aircraft of interest to the public. The Blue Eagles were
delighted to be invited to this prestigious event, and having flown a
validation display on the Thursday, the Team flew a superb show on the
Saturday and Sunday.
The
Royal International Air Tattoo – 15 and 16 July 2006
The Royal International
Air Tattoo is one of Britain’s largest military air displays, attracting
visitors from all over the world. Not just audience visitors, but participant
aircraft and Teams from most NATO and many other nations flock to the
otherwise quiet USAF and RAF airfield of Fairford in Gloucestershire.
The Blue Eagles took part on both days in the bright sunshine.
The
RNAS Yeovilton International Air Day – 8 July 2006
The Royal Naval Air Station at Yeovilton in Somerset hosts an annual international air show with a reputation for providing a variety of interesting and unusual displays. This year was no exception, and the Team were delighted to be invited to take part.
The RAF
Waddington International Air Show – 1 & 2 July 2006
The RAF Waddington
Air Show is one of the largest displays in Europe, attracting visitors
from all over the world. It was a great pleasure for the Team to be invited
to attend this event, not only for the prestige, but also as the Saturday
marked the 90th Anniversary of the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
The RAF Cosford Air Display – 11 June 2006
The RAF Cosford Air Display is the largest display in the Midlands. This year proved to be no exception in terms of the crowd as the weather was clear and hot all day. Over 50,000 people attended the show in the bright sunshine and the Team had almost perfect conditions in which to fly their first air display show.
The British Grand Prix Qualifying Day at Silverstone – 10 June 2006
The Team were based at Cosford to take part in their air display on the Sunday, but flew down to Silverstone to give their first ever public performance in front of the Formula 1 fans. Despite a blustery crosswind a fantastic display was flown, earning the Team a round of applause from the crowd. Pictures are from the display, and of the cars taking part in the Grand Prix qualifying sessions.
RIAT Press Day – 06th June and Thruxton SAAB Track Event – 09 June 2006.
The RIAT Press Day on 06 June, prior to the Air Tattoo in July, introduced the Team to a number of celebrities. On Friday, 09 June, Team sponsor SAAB invited the Team to a track day at Thruxton. It was to be the beginning of a very long weekend for the Team, encompassing the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and the RAF Cosford Air Display!

The
Blue Eagles at the Biggin Hill International Airshow.
Saturday
03rd and Sunday 04th September saw the team at the world famous Biggin
Hill International Air Show at the Battle of Britain Airfield of Biggin
Hill in Kent.
The
youngest Blue Eagle found!
The four day air show at Eastbourne
held a surprise for the Team.
The
Blue Eagles at the "End of the War" Airshow, Sandown, Isle of
Wight.
Saturday
30th and Sunday 31st July saw the team at the "End of the War" Airshow
in the delightful setting of Sandown Airport on the Isle of Wight.

2 and Sunday 3 July saw the Team in action at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire
during their annual international air show.

7 and 8 May at the VE-Day celebration air
display at Duxford.
The Team were invited to display at the famous Battle of Britain airfield
at Duxford in Cambridgeshire. This airfield is nowadays doubly famous
for being the home of the vast Imperial War Museum collection of aircraft
and armoured vehicles and the home of many of the privately owned vintage
warbirds that fly in the UK.
The Team is set and the pace picks up!

The Biggin Hill International Air Fair –
Army Teams triumph!
The final display of the year
turned out to be the crowning achievement on this long season for the
Blue Eagles. At the award presentation, an annual feature of this prestigious
event, the Blue Eagles were jointly awarded the Shell Trophy for the best
Team display, along with their colleagues in the Army Historic Aircraft
Flight.
Museum of Army Flying Cocktail Party
The Museum of Army Flying hosted
a VIP evening on 3rd September which included a display by the Historic
Aircraft Flight and the Blue Eagles just as the sun set!
2000 not out!
Eagle
5, Sgt Nige Harrison, passed a major milestone in his flying career on
the trip back from Elvington.
The Blue Eagles at the Shoreham RAFA Air
Display!
The
annual air show at Shoreham is a rather special event, not just because
of the size and scope of the excellent display, but also because all the
proceeds from the day go to the RAF Association charity. The local branch
of the Association, the members of which are all ex-servicemen and women,
are also the organisers of the show, which gives the Shoreham show a very
special feel.
The Blue Eagles at the Yorkshire Air
Show!
The Yorkshire Air Show is held
at one of the few remaining wartime Bomber Command airfields still largely
extant. The reason the airfield is still able to be used as such is that
it is also home to the delightful Yorkshire Air Museum, a collection which
boasts among its prize exhibits the only complete Handley Page Halifax
in the world. The crowds were out in force on the Saturday and Sunday
for what proved to be an exciting and dramatic show.

Air Display
Into
the middle of the season and the pace is hotting up! The Team travelled
to the delightful Devon seaside town of Dawlish to take part in their
seafront air show on 18th August and wowed the crowd as they closed the
show. Darron Hall kindly took some excellent photographs of the display,
and these are reproduced here with his kind permission.
The Blue Eagles and another four-day
weekend!
Eastbourne
Airborne is another of the very large seaside airshows that have become
such a popular attraction in the UK. Eastbourne’s show is unusual in as
much as it is a four day event, taking place this year from Thursday 12th
to Sunday 15th August. Again, it means a long weekend for the Team, with
the aircraft operating from Shoreham and the Team stand crew down on the
seafront at Eastbourne.
The Blue Eagles and the really
long weekend!
Starting on Thursday 29th July,
the Team had a very long weekend indeed. Thursday and Friday were spent
at another huge seaside show, Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival. This was
followed by the RNLI display at Lyme Regis on Saturday 31st, after which
the Team had to quickly return to Middle Wallop to take part in the Music
in the Air display! DeltaWeb’s Keith Draycott was on hand to catch the
action for the whole weekend, and his pictures are here.
The Blue Eagles at Sunderland.
One of the largest air display
crowds anywhere in Europe gathers every year along the Sunderland sea
front. The display takes place over the sea, thus the participants can
display their aircraft to the very limits. The team display was captured
by RAF photographer SAC David Wright from RAF Leeming, and his pictures

Bright and early Saturday 10
July the Team left Middle Wallop for one of the most exciting venues of
any display season, the British Grand Prix motor race at Silverstone.

Day.
The Team hosted their sponsors
at their home base of Middle Wallop. The Team stand was set up, the aircraft

of the D-Day Landings.
The Team flew to Normandy over
the weekend of 5 and 6 June to take part in the 60th Anniversary events
commemorating the landings in 1944.

Thursday 31 July saw the Team
depart Middle Wallop and fly to take part in the Lowestoft Seafront Air
Festival. They had a busy weekend ahead, with two days at Lowestoft, with
a display at RAF Shawbury as well on the Friday and another at the ‘Fly
to the Past’ display at Blenheim Palace on the Saturday. This report icludes
all the pictures and events as the Team flew around the country over the
weekend.

After a red hot week of heat
stroke inducing weather, everyone was looking forward to a display at
the Royal International Air Tattoo that would take place in brilliant
sunshine, but this is Britain in the summer, so basically, not a chance!
However, the Team had a great deal to do at the display, aside from fly,
which made for a busy and interesting weekend.

Thursday
01 and Friday 02 August 2002 – Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival
The Lowestoft Seafront
Air Festival is unusual in as much as it is held on a Thursday and Friday,
attracting the holiday traffic that flocks to the seaside town. The Team
displayed on both days, in very different weather again! This is becoming
a facet of this summer’s air shows in the UK. The highlights from both
days are pictured here.
Sunday
02 and Monday 03 June 2002 – Southend Air Show
The Team flew two displays
over the Bank Holiday weekend, quite different in the conditions they
encountered, even though they were at the same venue! Full story and pictures

Thursday
23rd May – Sponsors Day – Middle Wallop
The 2002 Team is now
fully formed and on Thursday 23 May, flew their first full display for
the Colonel of the Army Air Corps in order to be awarded their coveted
Blue flying helmets.
Blue
Eagles former Leader honoured
The 20th February saw
a former Team Leader of the Blue Eagles attend an investiture at Buckingham
Palace to be awarded the MBE.

Team’s many supporters.
The
Army Air Corps Sponsors Day – 17th October 2001
This was the Team’s
last semi-public display for 2001, the Sponsor’s Day at their home base
of Middle Wallop in Hampshire. The day included a presentation on the
Team’s activities over the year, as well as a display by the Historic
Aircraft Flight, the Apache and of course, the Blue Eagles themselves.
The
Leuchars Battle of Britain Air Show – 15th September 2001
The Royal Air Force
Leuchars Battle of Britain Air Show is one of the largest events in the
RAF’s display calendar, and without doubt the largest air display in Scotland.
The report covers the Team’s transit north and the arrival and preparation
for the display on Saturday, followed by the display itself with a guest
appearance by the AAC’s Historic Aircraft Flight and our French colleagues,
the Patrouille de France.
The
Southport Air Show – 8th and 9th September 2001
Southport is without
doubt one of the best displays in Britain for two reasons, the first being
the natural ampitheatre formed by the seawall and the curving beach, the
second is the wide variety of display aircraft the show has become famous
for. The Blue Eagles are an annual favorite at the show, welcomed by the
town each year anew.
Jersey
– The Battle of Flowers – 5th August 2001
On 5th August the team
were to be found in beautiful Jersey. Operating from the Jersey Aeroclub
at the airport the team flew the short transit to the bay at St Helier(the
island’s capital), to perform their display as the opening event to the
Island’s historic Battle of Flowers celebrations. This event is in its
99th year and is an annual major tourism event.
The
Sunderland Air Display – 29th July 2001
The Sunderland Air
Display, like the Lowestoft, Southport and Southend displays, is a free
to enter show held on the seafront of a major town. The show on Sunday
was a roaster, with fine blue skies and a huge crowd packed along the
seafront sweltering in the mid-summer heat. On the Monday, the Team broke
their journey home to drop in at the ground of the Newcastle Falcons,
one of the UK’s premiere rugby teams. Several Falcons players flew in
to the stadium, a photo-call with the aircraft was followed by a chance
for the team and their guests to get a close look at the helicopters.
The
Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival – 26th and 27th July 2001
Thursday 26th July
was the kick-off to what is without doubt the busiest weekend in the calendar
for the 2001 Team. The Thursday and Friday were spent at what is now one
of the biggest and best air displays in Britain, the Lowestoft Seafront
Air Festival. The weather on the Thursday was dire, with a heavy sea-mist,
but the Friday was fine, and a great display was flown for the 225,000
crowd.
The Vauxhall
Event at Blenheim Palace – 22nd July 2001
Sunday 22 July saw
the team lifting from Middle Wallop to go directly into their display
over the magnificent setting of Blenheim Palace. Guests of Vauxhall, one
of the companies that supports the Team and enables it to meet all its
display commitments, were treated to a first class and very close-in display,
courtesy of the layout of the unusual and spectacular venue.
The
British Grand Prix at Silverstone – 13th, 14th and 15th July 2001
Probably the most televised
and prestigious sporting event in England, the British Grand Prix, featured
the Blue Eagles display on both the Friday and Saturday. The Team also
had the opportunity for a first class view of the race from one of the
grandstands on Sunday! The report includes the displays and Team events,
and also has Julian Humphries’ excellent shots of the cars in practice
and racing.
Goodwood
– 6, 7, 8 July 2001
The prestigious ‘Festival
of Speed’ at Goodwood is always a nostalgic, exciting and freindly show.
The Team were welcomed with great warmth and tremendous hospitality by
the organisers, and put on two of their most exciting displays to date.
There were a number of VIP guests at the Team stand, making for an exciting
time on the ground too! All the photographs and another of ‘Dangerous’s’
videos are included in the pages.
Waddington
– 30 June and 1 July 2001
The premier Royal Air
Force air show welcomed the Team to a display made up of aircraft from
as far afield as Israel and Poland. The wind and low cloud made life very
interesting For the Team, but that’s exactly what Waddington is, interesting!
The report includes a superb set of video clips shot by none other than
‘Dangerous’ Brian Luke!.
Plymouth
and Cosford – 9 and 10 June 2001
With the huge air display
at Cosford in the Midlands and the seafront display at Plymouth in a single
weekend, the Team were rushing about like mad things! Still the weather
stayed fine, and was enjoyed by all. Can’t be summer in Britain surely!
Biggin
Hill – 2 and 3 June 2001
The Blue Eagles Team
Display at Biggin Hill was overshadowed by tragedy. This was our final
report regarding the sad events.

kicked off to a great start.
2000 Stories
17th
September 2000 – Plymouth Air Display
The Team flew to Plymouth
on Sunday morning to take part in the Battle of Britain display there.
Despite the overcast, we made it down in fine style, and thoroughly enjoyed
the two solo Gazelle and Lynx displays from the eye level vantage point
offered by the site.
16th
September 2000 – Leuchars Air Display
The Battle of Britain
Air Display is one of the largest in the UK, attracting visitors from
all over Scotland and the North of England. Since it is a long way from
Middle Wallop, the Team transited on Friday. The weather gradually improved
as we went up the country, until we arrived at Leuchars in bright sunshine.
The three pages cover the arrival on Friday, the display on Saturday,
and the transit south, including flypast shots of the Firth of Forth bridge!
Saturday
9 and Sunday 10 September – Middle Wallop International Air Show.
More good weather and a home crowd advantage led to an excellent Blues
display. Cuz also took part in the parachute display, and the whole Team
took part in the Mass Approach, where 42 helicopters rose from hides in
the woods surrounding Middle Wallop to form up over the airfield.
Saturday
2 and Sunday 3 September – Shoreham Air Display.
Excellent weather and the backdrop of Lancing College made this an
terrific display for the Team. The had a busy weekend as they also displayed
at Shepway on the Sunday, all of which is captured here.
Saturday
29 and Sunday 30 July – Sunderland Air Display.
A very wierd weather mixture held the display to a series of fly-bys
on the Saturday, but it cleared beautifully on the Sunday and a full show
wowed the enormous crowd.
Friday
28 July – RAF Shawbury Families Day, Shropshire.
The Team displayed at the home of the Defence Helicopter School, in
front of a discerning audience indeed! The display was tight and sharp,
a trademark of this year’s Team.
Saturday
15 July – Middle Wallop Officer’s Mess Summer Ball.
The Team’s chance to display in front of the most critical of audiences,
that made up of members of the Army Air Corps itself. The evening sunset
made for one of the most spectacular and lyrical displays the Team has
ever flown.
Saturday
15 July – Yeovilton International Air Display, Somerset.
The photographer was late, shooting the show from the far side resulting
in some unusual views!

and Sunday 24 – 25 June – Waddngton Air Display, Lincolnshire.
The Team’s second display of 2000 was in the now usual grotty British
summer weather, but we got some great shots in the Air on Sunday, thanks
to an RAF photographer who volunteered to work in the Lynx!
Monday
29 May – Southend Air Show, Essex.
The Team’s first display of 2000 started with a bang at Mildenhall
with bad weather, but continued to the two days of Southend, the Bank
Holiday Monday being in glorious weather for a change!
1999 Stories
Thursday
2 December – Middle Wallop, Hampshire.
The Team’s last demonstration of 1999 was at Middle Wallop for the
Companies who have supported the Team and the Historic Aircraft Flight
over the year.
Saturday
4 and Sunday 5 September – Southport Airshow, Lancashire.
Cris Driver and Jez Beynon photographed the show from inside and out
on both days. As usual, the Southport crowd were welcoming and enthusiastic!
Saturday
31 July – The famous Middle Wallop “Music in the Air” display in the early
evening!
Some of the highlights of this amazing show, aircraft on display set
to classical music with full orchestra and choir support. The only word
for this unusual event is magnificent!
Sunday
25 July – The Royal International Air Tattoo 1999, Live!
Some of the stars of the show captured by Kieth Draycott, and Jez Beynon
caught some stunners of the Team display from the inside!
Silverstone,
the British Grand Prix, Live!
